Amazon is considering buying Boost Mobile

Amazon is reportedly interested in becoming a Mobile Service Provider.

You might soon be able to get prepaid mobile service from Amazon. Reuters reports that Amazon is interested in buying prepaid cellphone wireless service Boost Mobile from U.S. carriers T-Mobile US Inc and Sprint Corp. The report is based on two sources familiar with the matter.

Amazon is supposed to be in the market for spectrum. What Amazon's plans are is not known. The new T-Mobile (merged T-Mobile and Sprint) needs to sell Boost to gain regulatory approval for the $26 billion merger. According to analyst estimates, Boost has 7 million to 8 million customers.

In the past, Amazon had not much luck with the mobile business. The Amazon smartphone failed and also their mobile phone shop has disappeared. The Boost purchase might bring Amazon back into the mobile phone and service market.

Boost mobile phones are available on amazon.com.
