Snapchat users will no longer have to log on to Facebook to plan an event.

Snapchat is working on a new feature that would allow users to join a group chat for an event, a tool that is already being enjoyed by users of bigger rival Facebook.

The feature that is currently under development was spotted by technology blogger Jane Manchin Wong, who posted a snapshot of the tool on Twitter. Wong, a technology blogger, software engineer and white hat hacker, is most noted for being the first to check out Facebook’s new dating feature before it was officially launched. She also recently revealed photos of Spotify’s new Social Listening feature.

In her latest post about Snapchat, Wong said “Snapchat is building Event Invites,” where users can “Swipe up on [an] invite to join a group chat for the event.”

A screenshot of the rumored feature shows a Snap Map, as well as Friends, Events, Bitmoji and Profile Management sections.

Wong did not provide further details and did not respond to other Twitter users’ replies to her post.

The new feature mirrors Facebook’s existing Events feature, where users can make a separate page dedicated for events. Facebook users can add as many friends as they like in the group and post photos, videos and polls, among many others.

If confirmed, the feature will allow Snapchat users to plan an event on the app itself.

Wong’s revelation comes about two weeks after The Wall Street Journal reported that Snapchat was working on a new feature that could let users add music to their posts at a time when the company faces tougher competition with the likes of Instagram and ByteDance’s TikTok.
