More details are expected at Square Enix's livestream tonight at 6 p.m. Pacific time.

Following years of waiting, fans of the video game series Final Fantasy will finally get their hands on the Final Fantasy VII Remake on March 3, 2020.

Final Fantasy VII first came out in 1997. Game creator Square Enix Co. confirmed the date of the remake’s release ahead of its E3 keynote on June 10.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will first be available on PlayStation 4 beginning March 3, 2020, according to a press release and a trailer of the game, which Square Enix revealed in a concert entitled “Final Fantasy VII - A Symphonic Reunion” at Los Angeles' Dolby Theater.

The trailer shows a PlayStation logo, making it unclear whether the game would also be available to Xbox. A Twitter page dedicated to the remake of the game also noted that Final Fantasy VII remake is coming to the PlayStation 4.

Meanwhile, Square Enix’s artist, designer and director Tetsuya Nomura tweeted that “We will be making further announcements tomorrow, but for now, please have a look at the short version trailer we revealed today.”

The timing of the remake’s release comes almost five years after Sony announced it in its E3 2015 press conference. At the time, Gamespot reported that it will first be available on PlayStation 4 before rolling out to other consoles.

Here is a description of the game as narrated by Square Enix in its press release:

“Rebuilding and expanding upon the legendary RPG for today, FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE tells the story of a world fallen under the control of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation controlling the planet's very life force as mako energy. In the sprawling city of Midgar, an anti-Shinra organization calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra's elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the group, unaware of the epic adventures that await him.”

Square Enix also released a picture of the game’s infamous villain, Sephiroth, set against a burning Midgar skyline.

Catch Square Enix’s livestream at 6 p.m. Pacific time / 9 p.m. Eastern time on June 10, where the company will announce more details about Final Fantasy VII Remake.
