Fix: No Sound Notifications for Incoming Text Messages in iPhone

We mention quick fixes to solve sound notification problems in iPhone.

An extremely common problem among iPhone users is the lack of sound notifications for incoming text messages. Users report that they aren’t getting any sound with text messages even when their settings and alerts are set to ON. Another related problem is that iPhone users aren’t getting sound notifications for incoming text messages for specific contacts.

Let’s find out how to fix this issue.

Assuming that you have taken care of the basic things like turning off the silent mode and making sure your sound notifications are on, we move towards the solutions that are known to fix the problem of no sound notification with text messages in iPhone.

The Moon Icon

The most common reason of not getting sound with incoming text messages is the Do Not Disturb mode that gets turned on for some specific contacts. Users usually turn this on accidentally. Even if you turn off the Do Not Disturb mode from your settings, you still won’t receive sound with text messages for the specific contacts for which the DnD is on.

Go to your Messages app. For the messages you aren’t getting any sound, look out for a small moon icon next to the contact name. If you see the moon icon, click on that Message and go to the Details. You will find out that the Do Not Disturb mode is ON for this specific contact. You should turn off this DnD mode for the specific contact. You will start receiving sound with incoming text messages again.

Launch Settings and go the Sounds.

Go to text tones and set a tone that you can actually hear.

Make sure to turn off the vibrate mode.

Open Settings and go to Notifications.

Open Messages

Toggle On the option named "Allow Notifications"

As a last resort, you should hard reset your iPhone to fix no sound notification for incoming messages in iPhone. Make sure to back up all your data first.

Press and hold the top power/sleep button and the home button at the same time.

Keep holding the buttons until you see the Apple logo. Release the buttons as soon as you see the logo.
