The 10MB app will work even in slow networks.

Music streaming giant Spotify has officially launched its Spotify Lite app that works even in areas with slow internet connection.

Spotify Lite is the company’s attempt to appeal to customers with poor internet connectivity and to those who have mobile devices with limited storage. Spotify claims that Lite is a “small, fast, and simplified version” of its main Spotify app. This means that users of the Spotify Lite app can still search for songs that they like, add them to playlists and discover other music through Spotify’s algorithm that suggests songs based on a user’s mood or taste.

“Spotify Lite was built from the ground up based on user feedback from around the world, allowing millions more to enjoy the world’s best music experience — especially in areas with limited bandwidth and phone storage,” Spotify’s senior product manager Kalle Persson said in a statement.

The app is only 10 MB, making it quick to download and install even through mobile data. It also has a data limit notification tool that lets users know whether they have already reached the set limit.

However, the company did not disclose whether Spotify Lite would have podcasts, which is one of the offering that it has been trying to boost in its existing main app.

The app is currently available to customers with Android phones that are running version 4.3 or higher.

Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, South Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and India.

Users in these countries can download the app straight from Google Play. As of writing time, 32,580 users have downloaded the app so far. It currently has an average rating of 4.2 stars out of all the downloads.
