Nerf blasters, Play-Dohs and other toys from Hasbro would no longer be wrapped in plastic packaging by 2022-end.

Global toymaker Hasbro has committed to phasing out plastics from the packaging of new toys and games starting 2020.

The maker of Play-Dohs, Nerf blasters and My Little Pony plush toys, said it will eliminate plastic elements like polybags, elastic bands, shrink wrap, window sheets and blister packs from all of the packagings of its products.

Hasbro is aiming to have no plastic packaging by the end of 2022.

This means that the company’s toys and games including the following items, will no longer be packed inside plastics:

Nerf blasters

My Little Pony Plush Toys

Transformers action figures

Baby Alive dolls

Littlest Pet Shop playsets

FurReal friends

Lost Kitties

Disney Princesses

Disney Frozen collectibles

Star Wars collectibles

Marvel collectibles

Mr. Potato Head

Hasbro is joining a growing list of other global companies that are embracing a plastic-free supply chain.

The strategy is part of the company’s environmental sustainability initiatives. In 2010, the toymaker completely phased out wire ties. In 2016, Hasbro introduced the How2Recycle labeling across its product range. Two years later, the company started using plant-based bio-polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for its product packaging.

Hasbro is also one of the new partners of U.S. recycling company TerraCycle. Hasbro and TerraCycle have teamed up to create a free recycling program for used toys and games. The program accepts all Hasbro toys and games, including board games, electronic toys and games, action figures, dolls, plush toys and more.

This way, kids can send their well-loved Hasbro toys and games to TerraCycle, who will then recycle them into materials used for constructing play spaces, flowerpots, park benches, and other materials with a purpose.
