Relive the old Azeroth with the launch of World of Warcraft Classic

It's time to take a trip down memory lane.

Blizzard Entertainment, the maker of the World of Warcraft, has announced that it has made the World of Warcraft Classic live for all WoW subscribers globally.

The game developer said there will be no additional cost to play the classic game. The launch marks the 15th anniversary of WoW.

With World of Warcraft Classic, WoW veterans are in for a trip down memory lane as they again enter the World of Warcraft as it was in its earliest days. For newbies to the game, the World of Warcraft Classic gives them a chance to explore how WoW started out.

As you know, the hit multiplayer online battle game Defense of the Ancients (DotA), started out as a mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, and its expansion, The Frozen Throne.

Blizzard said World of Warcraft Classic features an authentic re-creation of the pre-expansion game.

Gamers can live out their characters in WoW Classic’s Azeroth, where majority of the WoW series was set. Play as part of the Alliance or the Horde and battle it out against other players.

Over the coming weeks, WoW Classic will continue to expand. The classic mode will feature six phases including iconic raids like Blackwing Lair, Zul’Gurub, and Naxxramas; player-versus-player battlegrounds like Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, and the classic version of Alterac Valley; and time-limited server-wide events like the Ahn’Qiraj War Effort, and the Scourge Invasion.

As part of the launch, there will be festivities that include in-game events similar to the World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, Battle for Azeroth.

“It’s been a long time coming, but we’re overjoyed to welcome our friends new and old to classic Azeroth… The community’s excitement is infectious and deeply motivating—it’s clear they’re as thrilled as we are to relive the World of Warcraft Classic experience. We look forward to rediscovering its wonders and challenges together with them, starting today,” J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment, said in a statement.

Blizzard is behind other popular titles like Hearthstone, Overwatch, Starcraft and Diablo.
