Candy Crush Saga gets AR feature exclusively on Samsung Galaxy phones

The most popular candy-matching game goes AR.

Candy Crush Friends Saga, the popular mobile game that has been around since smartphones first surfaced, is upping its game as it joins the augmented reality trend in mobile phone gaming.

King, the developer behind the Candy Crush game, has announced that it is launching Hungry Yeti, a new augmented reality feature within the Candy Crush Friends Saga app. However, the cool new gaming feature will only be available on Samsung Galaxy phones.

The new AR feature for Candy Crush will roll out on August 30, coinciding with the launch of the brand-new Samsung Galaxy Note10 and Note10+.

Hungry Yeti, as the name implies, will star none other than Yeti, one of the main characters in Candy Crush Friends Saga. Players will be able to earn daily rewards whenever they feed Yeti cookies.

Note that Hungry Yeti will only be available to Candy Crush Saga players who have reached level 25 and above.

To enjoy the new AR gaming mode, players will only have to point their device at a flat surface. This opens up a portal where Yeti comes out to life.

A number of game developers have started to embrace AR now that smartphones are starting to adopt the technology. Among the pioneers of the AR gaming mode is Niantic, the developer behind Pokemon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. These two games have gained such a huge following across the world that Niantic and its partner companies host seasonal fan events and festivals.

Meanwhile, King said players with a Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ can also shake their S Pen to activate the Yeti dance, a feature that is exclusive to the new device.

"We're so excited to bring the rich world of Candy Crush Friends Saga to life on Samsung Galaxy devices… Our teams are always on the lookout for new ways to enhance our players' experience, and with augmented reality becoming increasingly popular with consumers today, it felt like the right time to introduce it into the Candy Crush franchise for the first time,” King’s Head of the Candy Crush franchise Marcus Lewold said.

Candy Crush Friends Saga’s Hungry Yeti will be available on all Samsung Galaxy phones. Check them all out here.
