What are the games that are compatible with the Nintendo Switch Lite?

So many games, so little time.

Every console gamer is anxiously waiting for the launch of Nintendo’s lightest gaming device yet, the Nintendo Switch Lite, on September 20.

Earlier, we weighed the pros and cons of the Switch Lite, comparing it to its predecessor, the Nintendo Switch, to help you decide if it’s time to shift to the Switch Lite or if you should keep playing via your Nintendo Switch. If you’re just getting in on the Nintendo life, you should know that the Nintendo Switch Lite doesn’t have some of the features of the Nintendo Switch like the ability to play via TV or accessories like the Joy-Cons.

Despite this, the Nintendo Switch Lite still has some advantages over the Nintendo Switch. For starters, its battery capacity is even bigger, it’s compact so you can have a nice grip on the console, it’s lightweight so your hands and wrists wouldn’t get tired from playing too much, plus the fact that it’s cheaper than the Nintendo Switch by $100!

That’s right, the Nintendo Switch Lite only costs $199.99, compared to the Switch, which retails at $299.99. The pricing is such a game-changer for the upcoming Switch Lite.

However, the real question is: Can you play all the Nintendo Switch games on the Nintendo Switch Lite?

The answer is yes, you can download all the games that you used to play on the Nintendo Switch on the Nintendo Switch Lite. However, since the Switch Lite does not support handheld mode, some games might not run as smoothly as they would on the Nintendo Switch and some games that require Joy-Con controllers may not work at all.

The key to finding out if a certain title is perfectly compatible with the Nintendo Switch Lite is by looking for this handheld mode icon whenever you purchase games:

Nintendo Switch Lite users can purchase digital games via the Nintendo eShop, which is where Nintendo Switch players also download their games.

Since the Switch Lite does not come with Joy-Con controllers, the following games may not run flawlessly on the Nintendo Switch Lite:

- Just Dance

- 1-2 Switch

- Super Mario Party

- Nintendo Labo

Basically, games that require players to get on their feet and use the Joy-Con controllers to dance, play virtual sports and the like would not work on the Nintendo Switch Lite.

However, there are over 2,000 games that you can play via the Switch Lite including popular titles like Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart, the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield and more.

To celebrate the launch of Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, Nintendo even came out with a special edition Switch Lite, called the Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta, for the same price as the other variants.

You can pre-order the following Nintendo Switch Lite color variants on online stores including Walmart.com, GameStop, as well as Amazon.com:
