Amazon unveils its more powerful Fire TV Cube; pre-order now

It now offers access to Dolby Vision.

Amazon has finally pulled the covers on its all-new Fire TV Cube and pre-orders have instantly opened as soon as the announcement was made.

The new Fire TV Cube is twice as powerful than its predecessor, the first generation Fire TV Cube, according to the tech giant, as it is packed with an ultra-powerful hexa-core processor, unlike the previous model that only runs on a quad processor, which is not bad at all.

The latest Fire TV Cube is now up for pre-order at $119.99 on before it ships out on October 10.

It’s priced the same as the first-gen Fire TV Cube when it was first launched, but with the arrival of the new device, the previous model is now only priced at $99.99. That represents a 17% discount.

Both devices offer hands-free TV viewing, which means you can ditch your handheld remote control as they are both Alexa-enabled, allowing users to control their TV by voice command.

The next-generation Fire TV Cube now comes with instant access to Dolby Vision, allowing your TVs to screen brilliant colors of picture. Dolby Vision is Dolby’s proprietary HDR 4K video format that delivers richer colors.

Additionally, the Fire TV Cube, just like its predecessor, has retained access to 4K Ultra HD content at up to 60 frames per second. And just like the previous generation, the latest model also offers the audio clarity of Dolby Atmos.

In terms of storage, the new model is built with 16 GB of internal storage, the same as the previous model. Both TV Cubes also offer free cloud storage for digital content purchased from Amazon.

One of the changes in the new device is its Local Voice Control technology, a new on-device processing feature that lets users more quickly execute some of the most frequent voice commands such as “Alexa, scroll right,” “Alexa, go home,” “Alexa, select number one,” and more up to 4 times as fast as before.

Amazon enhanced the voice control feature of the second generation Fire Cube as it now features far-field voice recognition with eight microphones and advanced beamforming technology that blends signals from individual microphones to suppress noise, reverberation and the content that is currently playing. This way, Alexa would easily understand your voice commands even when there’s too much noise in the background.

Because it comes with built-in Alexa, you can tell your TV to dim the lights, check the weather, listen to the news and more even when your TV is off!

The new Fire TV Cube is now available for pre-order on in the U.S. for $119.99. It will also roll out to Canada, the U.K., Germany and Japan.

As with the previous version, the new Fire TV Cube lets users stream over 500,000 movies and TV episodes and watch videos, TV shows and movies from Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, STARZ, SHOWTIME, CBS All Access, and more. They can also access websites such as Facebook and Reddit with browsers like Amazon Silk and Firefox. As an all-in-one home entertainment device, the Fire TV Cube also allows users to jam to songs through services like Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora and iHeartRadio.

The second generation Fire TV Cube is just one of the many other new and upgraded Amazon devices that the tech behemoth has launched. Amazon has just released more than 15 new Fire TV Edition products, including the Nebula Soundbar, which Amazon developed with known consumer electronic brand Anker.

The Nebula Soundbar is now up for pre-order at $229.99 before it ships out on November 21. Pre-order it now on
