Samsung Galaxy Fold arrives in select markets in the coming days

The Galaxy Fold will soon unfold in some markets.

We now have word about the official release date of Samsung’s new revolutionary phone, the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and it’s tomorrow, September 6, but only in Samsung’s home market of South Korea. Further rollouts are expected in select markets including the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Singapore and more in the coming days.

That’s according to the company itself, confirming rumors from media reports, including one from South Korean news agency, Yonhap.

Yonhap earlier reported that Samsung has worked with three mobile telecommunication companies to launch the phone in Korea on that date.

Most recently, Samsung said the Fold will have a 5G-ready option in select countries.

Yonhap said Samsung planned to roll out the phone in late September after deciding to push back the launch from the initial April 26 release. The delay was prompted by issues that tech bloggers and reviewers reported earlier this year. In July, Samsung released a statement saying it has tweaked the phone’s foldability issue, specifically with issues concerning creases.

When it was first announced earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy Fold paved the way for other smartphone makers to also launch their own take on foldable phones. One of them is Huawei with its Mate X.

Samsung’s announcement of the release of the Galaxy Fold coincides with the opening of the IFA 2019, Europe's largest consumer electronics convention, in Berlin, Germany.

During the IFA, Huawei is also scheduled to launch its new Huawei Mate 30, the successor to the Huawei Mate 20 series.

The Galaxy Fold is expected to hit the stores in the U.S. and China later in the month and is expected to be priced at $1,980 for 512GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. It will be available in two colors: Space Silver and Cosmos Black.

Samsung describes the Fold as a “device unlike any before.” The cover display that’s HD+ Super AMOLED measures 4.6 inches, while the main display when you open the phone like a book measures 7.3 inches and it’s a QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED display.

Samsung also did not comprise the Galaxy Fold’s camera after working too much on the display. The Galaxy Fold has a 10MP selfie camera on its cover and another 10MP selfie camera on the front plus a 8MP RGB depth camera. It also packs a 16MP ultra wide camera, a 12MP wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera.

The Galaxy Fold will also have a 5G version. The 5G device will have a 4235mAh battery, while the LTE version will have a 4380mAh battery. The phone’s speakers are made by Dolby with Atmos surround sound. Luckily, the device comes with its own Galaxy Buds so you wouldn’t have to worry about buying a separate pair of earbuds. The Galaxy Fold will run on Android 9 Pie.
