New Apple TV could be announced alongside the iPhone 11

Stay tuned as Apple makes its announcement later today.

As the world awaits for the release of the new iPhone 11 on September 10, people have left out the possibility of Apple launching new versions of its other devices.

There are rumors that Apple could come out with a successor to the Apple TV and it would likely be called the Apple TV11, codenamed J305. That’s according to MacRumors, which cited reliable leaker @never_released aka Longhorn on Twitter.

MacRumors said Longhorn has a history of sharing codenames and info about upcoming Apple hardware.

On Twitter, @never_released posted a brief status, hinting at a possible Apple TV 11, which is expected to run on a faster A12 chip. The latest model, the Apple TV 4K only runs on a A10X Fusion chip.

MacRumors supported the claim after discovering that the strings and plist files in an internal build of iOS 13 listed an AppleTV11,1 model identifier and the J305 codename.

In his latest tweet, Longhorn said he’s “100% sure that AppleTV11,1 uses an A12, not an A12X” chip.

MacRumors said Apple would likely come out with an updated Apple TV this year. The website noted that the company has updated the device once every two years for the past three generations. The revised third-generation Apple TV was launched in March 2013. Two years later in September 2015, the fourth-generation Apple TV was unveiled, while the most recent one, the Apple TV 4K was released in September 2017.

With or without an upgraded Apple TV, the current model is still a powerful TV box that can deliver an outstanding home entertainment experience.

Because it’s named the Apple TV 4K, the device allows for watching movies and TV shows in 4K HDR with Dolby Vision and HDR10 for stunning picture quality. Its A10X Fusion chip makes it possible for TVs to screen ultra-fast graphics and performance.

The Apple TV 4K also comes with the Siri Remote, so you no longer have to use the handheld remote control if you don’t want to.

Stay tuned as we cover Apple's announcement later today.
