Super Nintendo ES games have landed on the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite

Time to take a trip down memory lane.

Games that are part of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES, have arrived on the Nintendo Switch via Nintendo Switch Online.

The Japanese gaming giant made the announcement at its Nintendo Direct video presentation.

The move comes almost a year after Nintendo launched Switch Online, a paid online service that lets players save their games on the cloud and allows for multiplayer connectivity.

Starting September 5, the following games will be free for anyone with a Nintendo Switch Online membership:

o Super Mario World

o Super Mario Kart

o The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

o Super Metroid

o Stunt Race FX (Available for the first time since its original Super NES release!)

o Kirby’s Dream Land 3

o Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island

o Star Fox

o Pilotwings

o Kirby’s Dream Course

o Breath of Fire

o Demon’s Crest

o Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics

o Super Ghouls’n Ghosts

o Super Puyo Puyo 2 (Available for the first time in the U.S.!)

o Super Soccer (Available for the first time since its original Super NES release!)

o Super Tennis (Available for the first time since its original Super NES release!)

Some of the games listed above support multiplayer mode and even voice chat via the Nintendo Switch Online app. Nintendo hinted at more Super NES games coming to the collection in the future.

The announcement coincides with the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, which will be available for release on September 20.

The Switch Lite supports online play via Nintendo Switch Online, which means Super NES games are also arriving on the Switch Lite as soon as it launches.

The Nintendo Switch Lite, the lighter and more portable version of the Switch, is up for pre-order on retail outlets including Walmart, Gamestop and for just $199.99, $100 cheaper than the Switch. They ome in three different variants, plus a special edition version:

Nintendo Switch Lite Gray

Nintendo Switch Lite Turquoise

Nintendo Switch Lite Yellow

Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta (Special Edition)

Apart from this announcement, Nintendo also revealed that it is launching a wireless SNES controller that will be available as a special offer only to Nintendo Switch Online members. Every member would be eligible to purchase up to four controllers as soon as the controller rolls out in the coming weeks. It will be priced at $29.99 each.

We’ll reveal more details about the Super Nintendo Entertainment System controller later in the day.
