Nintendo unveils wireless SNES controllers for Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo Switch players can soon play their games old school style.

Nintendo has just announced a new controller for Nintendo Switch players, but it’s unlike any controller. It’s a wireless Super Nintendo Entertainment System-style controller that players can use to relive the good old days when basic controllers were a hit.

Nintendo made the announcement during its Nintendo Direct presentation earlier.

The SNES Nintendo Switch Online Exclusive Controller will soon be available for purchase, but only to Nintendo Switch Online members. Subscribers are eligible to buy up to four controllers per Nintendo Account.

Nintendo is offering the 1-piece controller for $29.99, but it’s only available for Nintendo Switch Online members for now. Because they’re wireless, you no longer need a dongle to play with them. They charge via USB cable.

The launch of the wireless SNES controllers for Nintendo Switch Online comes less than a year after Nintendo’s NES-style controllers for the Nintendo Switch became available. They are sold at $25.99 on Amazon.com and as a pair for $59.99 on Nintendo's website. Just like the SNES controllers, the NES controllers are only offered to those with a Nintendo Account. Members are only entitled to one purchase per account.

Nintendo’s console family is growing bigger and bigger with this new device. In the coming days, the Nintendo Switch Lite is about to hit stores globally. The Switch Lite, which retails for only $199.99, $100 cheaper than its predecessor, the Nintendo Switch.

The Switch Lite is tipped to be the next big thing in the handheld gaming space because it packs a bigger battery capacity than the Switch. It’s dedicated to handheld play, which makes it perfect for gamers who are always on the go.

Pre-order the Nintendo Switch Lite now on retail outlets including Walmart, Gamestop and Amazon.com. On Amazon.com, all three variants are available for purchase: the gray, yellow and turquoise variants. If you’re a fan of Pokemon, the Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta (Special Edition) could be your perfect choice. It’s the limited edition version of the Switch Lite that is priced equally with the standard variants.
