PUMA debuts own smartwatch that runs on Google’s Wear OS

The sportswear company is jumping on board the booming smartwatch market.

German multinational sportswear brand PUMA has unveiled its very first smartwatch, specifically designed for lifestyle enthusiasts, that will arrive in November for $275.

This is the first time PUMA has forayed into smartwatches. The sports apparel company already offers a range of traditional watches for men and women.

Most recently, PUMA has partnered with multifunctional watch expert Fossil to develop the PUMA Smartwatch. It will run on Wear OS by Google, the tech giant’s proprietary operating system for smartwatches, and is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform.

With Wear OS, users are able to access Google Assistant, allowing them to set reminders, alarms, check the weather, plan an event and more using voice command.

The PUMA Smartwatch will feature heart rate tracking with Google Fit, built-in GPS tracking and access to music via Spotify. Users will also be able to make NFC payments via Google Pay, sync workouts to compatible training apps, get smartphone notifications straight on the watch, track activities and more.

Hardware-wise, the smartwatch is swimproof since it’s built with athletes in mind. Because athletes are always on the go, the PUMA Smartwatch boasts its rapid charging technology.

In terms of its look, the PUMA Smartwatch bears the iconic PUMA logo. The watch itself is designed with a cut-out nylon and aluminum case that makes it ultra lightweight so it wouldn’t get in the way of your training. It’s also breathable on the wrist because of its textured silicone strap that minimizes sweat.

For the watch display, PUMA Smartwatch owners can customize the face of their watch with several interactive dial options like the “Scorecard” dial that displays time, date and heart rate. Users can also take pictures from their social media to display on the watch.

The PUMA Smartwatch will be available in three colors: yellow, white and black. PUMA has yet to open pre-orders but you can download The Tracker app for free to get notified when it arrives on retail outlets in November.
