The new LG G8X ThinQ debuts with a second screen option

LG is giving users an option to go for a second screen.

Shortly after the announcement of the LG G8 ThinQ in March, LG has added a new variant to the smartphone range, but this time, it’s coming with an option to have a second screen.

Yes, LG’s candidate in the battle of the foldable smartphones doesn’t force consumers to adapt to the foldable lifestyle. Instead, LG is letting them choose whether they want to add a second screen, but of course, for an additional price.

The LG G8X ThinQ shares only a few features with the LG G8 ThinQ, including Android Pie, its Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. The new model is bigger with a 6.4-inch FHD OLED display, compared to the 6.1-inch QHD+ OLED display of the LG G8 ThinQ.

In terms of battery capacity, the new model packs a 4,000mAh battery, versus the 3,500 mAh battery of the previous model.

LG said it surveyed consumers for the design of the new LG Dual Screen. Among the improvements it made to the screen since first unveiling it at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year is the additional 2.1-inch cover display that allows users to check time date, battery charge, notifications, and other important notifications without having to unfold their phones. This is extremely useful when outdoors.

LG also adjusted the Dual Screen’s hinge. It is now able to be folded 360 degrees. LG calls this the 360 Freestop Hinge, which lets users adjust the angle of their screen like a laptop.

Apart from all these, LG also surprised everyone with the addition of an in-display fingerprint sensor, which makes sense especially as some users might consider adding a Dual Screen. This way, users can unlock their phones by just tapping the screen even when the Dual Screen is folded back.

In terms of camera, the LG G8X ThinQ did not disappoint as it now has a 32MP front-facing camera and a 12MP rear camera.

LG has yet to reveal the price tag of the new phone and its second screen option, but it could come close to the G8 ThinQ’s price of around $849.99.
