Get in shape with Nintendo’s new Ring-Con and Leg Strap controllers for Switch

Take a step towards fitness while enjoying a fun game on your Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo is again promoting adventure and fitness with the release of a new set of controllers for the Nintendo Switch. That’s after the gaming giant discontinued the Wii, which was a hit for those who want to get moving while playing their video games.

Earlier, Nintendo teased a new controller for the Nintendo Switch platform that appeared to involve a lot of body movements. The controller was shaped like a steering wheel and it was controlled alongside a separate strap that was tied to the players’ leg.

Most recently, Nintendo has finally revealed more details into this new set of controllers and it’s going to be a fun way to get in shape while playing. The controllers are called the Ring-Con and the Leg Strap, which were announced alongside a new game called RingFit Adventure.

The new play experience will be released on October 18, over a month from now, so you’ll have plenty of time to save up and add them to your collection. RingFit Adventure is sold with the game itself, the Ring-Con and the Leg Strap.

Nintendo has yet to reveal the price tag for RingFit Adventure, but you can download The Tracker app for free to get first dibs on this item as soon as it hits stores. The Tracker will notify you when pre-orders have begun and when they are finally available for purchase.

RingFit Adventure, as the name implies, is an adventure game, but there’s more to it than just a standard role-playing adventure game because you will get to move your body as you play. The game requires a Nintendo Switch console.

To play with the cool new gears, simply insert the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers into the Ring-Con and Leg Strap separately. When playing, you no longer need to press buttons on the Joy-Con controllers like you would when playing other Switch games. Instead, have fun making gestures and movements with the Ring-Con while the Leg Strap is in place on your leg.

When on attack mode, the player has to squeeze the Ring-Con to launch powerful attacks. If this is your first time working out, fret not because you can calibrate the Ring-Con according to your strength.

The game involves a lot of running in place, knee lifting, overhead pressing, knee-to-chest movements, thigh-pressing, squatting and more. There are over 40 fit skills to master when playing RingFit Adventure. They even include a number of yoga positions.

Players can also control the length of each game, which is ideal because some individuals have a set length of time when they exercise.

Apart from the adventure game itself, there are also quick play modes where all a player has to do is to follow an exercise routine in short periods of time. The quick play mode includes a number of challenges where the goal is to exercise a certain part of the body.

RingFit Adventure will launch October 18. Get The Tracker app to get notified immediately when pre-orders begin.

This new play experience was announced ahead of the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, a lighter and more affordable version of the Nintendo Switch console that is specifically designed for handheld play. The Switch Lite will roll out on September 20. You can pre-order one now at $199.99 on, GameStop and, where all three standard editions are available, the yellow, gray and turquoise versions, plus the limited edition Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta.
