Pinterest’s new lens makes you snap and shop easily

Pinterest is integrating AI into its services.

Shopping for home furniture and home accessories is fun when you already have an idea in mind. The only thing that may be a bit challenging is when you have to search for the products that you want using a set of keywords including the color, type of product, shape and more product specifications.

Most of the time, we forget what one thing is called so we give up finding the right item that we want and settle instead with something different.

Luckily, Pinterest has found a solution for this dilemma and that is to automate.

The social media platform where people share and pin different design aesthetics, among many others, has introduced its new Lens camera search feature that lets users capture a photo then let Pinterest suggest places and stores where they can be bought.

This new Pinterest visual search feature saves users the hassle of having to think of the right keywords to search for when they’re looking for a particular product. Just simply snap and Pinterest will do the searching for you. The Lens tool is able to identify more than 2.5 billion objects ranging from home to fashion items.

You can also save the photos that you captured via the Pinterest Lens straight to your camera roll, then upload them on Pinterest later to add to any of your boards.

Additionally, the Lens tool can do more than just capturing a photo and shopping for items. You can also snap a full room via the Lens and Pinterest will show you all the shoppable Product Pins in one photo alone.

In a study conducted by Pinterest in March, the company found out that 80% of Pinners start with visual search when shopping. Over 85% of respondents of the study also focused more on the visual image of the items that they are about to buy when shopping for clothes or furniture, instead of the text information.

Apart from the new Pinterest Lens, customers can also check out Pinterest visual search-enabled QR codes, called “Pincodes,” at some retail partners like IKEA Germany, Albertsons, the Conran Shop and Home Depot. By scanning Pincodes, customers will be redirected to their Pinterest apps to get tailored results depending on the store.
