Walmart and Roku team up to offer cheaper soundbar, subwoofer

Walmart is about to challenge Amazon in the TV and speaker segment.

Retail giant Walmart has partnered with Roku to develop two new powerful devices that could rival Walmart's biggest competition,

Walmart and Roku have developed the new onn brand of Roku Smart Soundbar and onn Roku Wireless Subwoofer.

These devices will soon roll out across Walmart's physical stores and online on They will both be priced at $129 each.

The onn Roku Smart Soundbar, when connected to a TV, will offer high-quality sound and powerful streaming, according to Walmart and Roku. It will support TVs with HDMI inputs and HDMI-ARC or Optical audio output. The onn Roku Smart Soundbar promises impeccable HD, 4K UHD, and HDR video quality. In terms of streaming, it is expected to provide access to more than 500,000 movies and TV episodes and millions of songs through paid and free channels.

Among other major features, the onn Roku Smart Soundbar will also be compatible with the entire Roku ecosystem via Roku Connect. It will also provide rich, clear and powerful sound via Dolby Audio. Users can control this soundbar through a mobile remote using the Roku mobile app without having to look for its physical remote.

The onn Roku Smart Soundbar is expected to challenge Amazon's newly released Nebula Soundbar - Fire TV Edition that offers access to Alexa. The Nebula Soundbar is still up for pre-order at $229.99 before Amazon ships out the item on November 21. Amazon partnered with consumer electronics expert Anker on the Nebula Soundbar.

Walmart's Roku is priced $100 less than the Nebula Soundbar. However, it will not come with a voice assistant unlike Amazon's Nebula Soundbar.

"We know our customers shop with us for quality products at an affordable price... We’re thrilled to be working with Roku to deliver a new category of audio and streaming products in time for the holiday season that are easy to use and come at an incredible value," Walmart's Vice President of Consumer Electronics Ryan Peterson said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the upcoming onn Roku Wireless Subwoofer is a device that would complement the onn Roku Wireless Soundbar. When linked with the Soundbar, the onn Roku Wireless Subwoofer will deliver deeper and richer sound. This device is easy to set up. Simply plug it into power and pair it with the onn Roku Smart Soundbar and you'r'e good to go.
