Amazon's Alexa can now speak and understand Spanish

"Alexa, ¡Hola!"

Amazon's voice assistant Alexa can now understand and speak Spanish in the United States.

Starting today, customers in the U.S. who prefer to have Alexa speak in Spanish on their Alexa-enabled speakers and other devices can switch to “Español (Estados Unidos)” via the Alexa app.

This way, users can ask Alexa in Spanish to play their favorite songs, read the news and weather, control their smart home, set reminders, or enjoy skills from brands including Univision, Telemundo, and more.

Switching back to English from Spanish is now more convenient with Alexa in Multi-lingual mode. Simply put, if you ask Alexa for the weather in English, Alexa will respond in English. The same goes when you ask Alexa in Spanish, so there's no need to change the controls on your Amazon app.

Amazon has also added a variety of new Latin music playlists for Amazon Music in the U.S.

Simply say “Alexa, pon la playlist Sin Filtro” to play a playlist with urban artists like Bad Bunny, Anuel AA, Darell and more or say “Alexa, pon la playlist Tierra Tropical” to play dance songs including bachata, salsa, cumbias, and many more.

Amazon said Multi-lingual mode will also be available in Indian English and Hindi in India and Canadian English and French in Canada.

Multi-lingual mode is compatible with all Amazon-enabled Echo devices including the following:

Echo Glow - multicolor smart lamp for kids

Nebula Soundbar - Fire TV Edition

Fire TV Cube - hands free streaming media player

Echo Dot (3rd Gen) - smart speaker with clock and Alexa

Echo (3rd Gen) - smart speaker with Alexa

Echo Studio - high-fidelity smart speaker with 3D audio

Echo Buds - wireless earbuds with immersive sound, active noise reduction, and Alexa

Amazon added that device makers such as Bose, Sonos, Sony, and others are also bringing Spanish to their Alexa Built-in devices in the U.S.
