Apple could launch budget iPhone SE 2 in early 2020

The new iPhone SE 2 could share the same body as the iPhone 8.

More details have emerged about Apple's potential plan to bring back its budget phone, the iPhone SE to help it attract more customers in the mid-range segment.

Back in September, Japanese newspaper the Nikkei Asian Review reported that Apple could launch them in spring to particularly regain its market share in China, where Huawei and other Android phone makers have dominated.

Most recently, reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told MacRumors that Apple is indeed coming up with a successor to the iPhone SE, called the iPhone SE 2, and that it will be released in the first quarter of 2020.

Kuo told the news outlet that the phone is tipped to be priced from $399.

Despite it being a low-end iPhone, Kuo reportedly said the iPhone SE 2 will sport the same A13 CPU chip as the iPhone 11.

Kuo further provided some features to expect with the upcoming iPhone SE including a 3GB LPDDR4X RAM, 64GB and 128GB options and Space Gray, Silver and Red color variants. MacRumors noted, citing Kuo's new note, that the phone will have no 3D touch.

However, the phone will no longer have the same body as the iPhone SE. Kuo reportedly hinted that the SE 2 will share the same form factor as the iPhone 8.

This suggestion backs the previous one reported by the Nikkei last month. The Nikkei's sources said at the time that the iPhone SE 2 would measure at 4.7 inches, similar to the smaller iPhone 8.

If confirmed, the upcoming iPhone SE 2 could appeal to current iPhone 6 and 6s users who are looking to upgrade without having to spend much.
