Overwatch Legendary Edition now available on Nintendo Switch

The 31st Overwatch hero is arriving on the Switch platform.

Overwatch, Blizzard's most popular game to date, has finally landed on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite, promising a golden loot box to those who purchase the game before December 31.

Blizzard first announced its Nintendo launch in September ahead of the release of Nintendo's more affordable and lighter console, the Nintendo Switch Lite. Because of its affordability, Nintendo can expect to see a huge number of new Switch players, benefitting game makers like Blizzard.

The Overwatch Legendary Edition is now up for purchase on the Nintendo eShop for $39.99. Those who purchase are entitled to a three-month Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Overwatch was first released in 2016 and has since become available on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and on PCs.

Now, it has landed on the Nintendo Switch platform, giving Switch gamers access to three years’ worth of content updates and gameplay improvements. The Switch launch will come with 31 Overwatch heroes, including the 31st hero, Sigma. Sigma is an eccentric astrophysicist who has the power to control gravity.

Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite players will also be welcomed with a range of casual and competitive game modes set across 28 distinct locations around the globe, including the newest place in Overwatch called Havana.

The Switch's gyroscopic motion controls will provide a great experience for Overwatch players. By tilting the Joy-Con controllers, players will be able to guide Junkrat’s RIP-Tire to score maximum mayhem, glide through the skies and do more.

"The Legendary Edition reflects more than three years of ongoing development on Overwatch, and we can’t think of a better way to introduce the game to Nintendo Switch players... Whether they’re playing at home or on the go, we’re thrilled to welcome our newest heroes to the ever-evolving Overwatch universe," J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment, said.
