Adobe Illustrator app could roll out to iPads in 2020

Photoshop is not the only Adobe app to come to iPads.

Adobe's suite of creative software that are originally accessible only via desktops and laptops are coming to iPads now that users are starting to lean towards tablets because of their versatility.

Last year, Adobe announced that Photoshop CC will be available on the iPad "in late 2019."

Now, Bloomberg reports that Adobe's integration of its creative software products into the iPad is not limited to the Photoshop as the developer also plans to roll out an iPad app for the Adobe Illustrator.

The Adobe Illustrator is a popular vector graphics editor that came to life in 1985. It is widely used by web designers, graphic designers and virtual artists to basically create artwork from scratch.

Bloomberg said according to people familiar with the matter, Adobe will preview Illustrator for iPad at its Max conference next month before it rolls out the service in 2020.

When reached for comment, an Adobe spokeswoman did not deny the rumored plan, but said: "We have nothing new to share at this time."

If confirmed, Illustrator would be a great addition to Adobe's list of iPad apps. The developer already offers Fresco and Premiere Rush to iPad users.

The news comes just days after Bloomberg reported that some beta testers of Photoshop's iPad app found that it lacked some essential features that the desktop version has.

“Feature-wise, it feels like a beefed-up cloud-based version of their existing iPad apps and not ‘real Photoshop’ as advertised,” one of the early testers reportedly said. “I understand it is based on desktop Photoshop code, but it doesn’t feel like it right now.”

Apple has just recently rolled out a dedicated operating system for iPads, called iPadOS. When the tech giant unveiled the OS back in June, Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, said “iPad transforms how people work and express their creativity, and with iPadOS, we’re taking it even further by delivering exciting capabilities that take advantage of its large canvas and versatility."

iPadOS is specifically designed and optimized for wider screens, making it a perfect host for lighter versions of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
