Pokémon Go trainers can soon face off online in GO Battle League

It has been a long time coming, but it’s definitely worth the wait.

Niantic, the creator of Pokémon Go has announced in a blog post that it will be rolling out the option for trainers to face off online in a new feature called GO Battle League.

Since Pokémon Go was released in 2016, players were only able to battle against other trainers when they are within a close range.

Most recently, Niantic announced that GO Battle League will be launching in early 2020 to allow trainers to challenge other trainers online. The company has yet to reveal any more details, but it did note that in GO Battle League, trainers will be encouraged to get out and walk in order to gain entry into the GO Battle League. After securing their entry, trainers will then be allowed to battle opponents from around the world with the help of an online matching system.

The goal is to earn your place at the top of the league.

Niantic said it will share further details about this new feature in a special Dev Insights video. The developer has been continuously rolling out new features for Pokémon Go as the game continues to become a global phenomenon for mobile devices.

According to data from Statista, there are currently 603 million Pokémon Go players around the world, with the bulk of them located in Asia-Pacific. In the United States alone, the game has so far amassed 67 million followers.

Last week, Niantic hinted that the new tool, called Niantic Wayfarer is launching soon. This tool will allow Pokémon GO Trainers to review nominations for PokéStops and Gyms in a bid to help discover and determine places where trainers can play.

Niantic said eligible players in some selected countries can continue submitting their nominations for PokéStops.
