Sony unveils new coding kit for kids

Sony continues to roll out codable toys for kids.

Sony Electronics has taken the wraps off its new coding kit for kids called the KOOV Trial Kit.

It's Sony's second coding, robotics and design kit option for children following the launch of the KOOV Educator Kit back in February 2018.

The KOOV Educator Kit combined digital coding with physical building and it's a great educational toy that helps children with problem solving and innovating.

Now, the KOOV Trial Kit is the follow-up to the Educator Kit and it also promotes the same STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) skills that children have to start learning at an early age in order to keep up with the modern world.

As with the KOOV Educator Kit, the KOOV Trial Kit also mixes digital programming with building something by hand. It is also recommended for kids ages 8 and up.

The KOOV Trial Kit comes with 86 colorful blocks, accessories, sensors, motors and LEDS. To start coding and building, kids will need the dedicated KOOV App on their phone or tablet. The app features more than 50 hours of educational content and instructions and that are very easy to follow.

Children can code and build more than 43 pre-designed "Robot Recipes" that vary from simple structures to complex animals and vehicles.

"Sony looks to the next generation of young innovators as we head into the future, and we created the KOOV Trial Kit to provide a wider base of youngsters with the opportunity to take a peek into the coding and robotics universe... By embracing STEAM subjects in school, we hope students will be better prepared with the skills needed for their future careers," Sony Electronics North America's Vice President for New Business and Corporate Marketing Group Michiko Araki Kelley said.

The KOOV Trial Kit is up for purchase on Sony's website at $249.99. At the moment, it's only available on Sony's website. However, you can download The Tracker app to get notified if this STEM kit becomes available on other retail sites.

Just this month, another company that produces STEM coding kits for kids and teens, Ubtech, launched its new line of codable robots that are already available for purchase on
