US shoppers poised to spend $143.7 billion this holiday

Shoppers are expected to spend 14.1% more on this year’s holiday season compared to last year.

With the holidays coming up, shoppers in the United States are expected to spend a total of $143.7 billion in shopping both in stores and online, despite fewer days between Cyber Monday and Christmas Day this year.

That’s according to a prediction by Adobe’s AI and machine learning technology called Adobe Sensei.

This year, there will be six fewer days of peak holiday shopping days compared to 2018. That, according to Adobe, will result to nearly $1 billion of potential revenue lost.

According to Adobe, U.S. shoppers could spend 14.1% more on this year’s holiday season compared to last year.

Traditionally, Black Friday has always been the go-to holiday shopping event of every year, but according to Adobe, this year, Cyber Monday is expected to become the largest and fastest growing online shopping day of the year with $9.4 billion in sales, up 18.9% year over year.

“One out of five dollars this holiday season will be spent during Cyber Week,” Adobe said.

On Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 28, sales in the U.S. are predicted to grow 19.5% year over year to $4.4 billion.

This year, shoppers will splurge on Christmas gifts for their loved ones, with the most popular gifts expected to be Nintendo Switch Lite and SEGA Genesis Mini, as well as toys like Owleez, Blume Dolls, Candy Locks, Kindi Kids, and LOL Surprise OMG Swag. This holiday’s top selling games are expected to include Pokémon Shield/Sword, Shenmue 3, Jedi Fallen Order, Death Stranding and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Adobe also predicted that the best days for deals on appliances and sporting goods on Black Friday; for toys and computers on Sunday, December 1; for TVs, furniture and bedding on Cyber Monday on December 2; and for tools and home improvement items on Tuesday, December 3. For those looking to snag the best deals on electronics, Adobe said the best day is on December 27.

Right now, some retailers are already offering early holiday deals on a number of items.
