Walmart launches store maps feature in app in time for Black Friday

Walmart is making holiday shopping so much easier now.

Walmart is hoping to see shoppers enjoy the store maps feature in its official app this Black Friday and even all year round.

“Customers may not be as familiar with the store they’re in, especially when traveling, so they can use our app to help them find the things they need,” Paul Kilsch, senior manager for digital acceleration at Walmart, said in a November 27 news release.

The store maps feature debuted in the retailer’s app in November 2018. Through this feature, shoppers can look up a product and find the aisle where it is located.

With Walmart’s Black Friday 2019 sale already online and the holiday shopping event closing in very soon, a store is expected to change to a slightly different layout. However, customers can still rely on store maps, which will make the necessary adjustments, the release said.

According to Walmart, most of its high-demand product locations have been available on the map since it released its Walmart Black Friday 2019 ad. The retail giant plans to mark all the advertised products via color-coded maps in the app the night of the shopping event.

The app will automatically show the “Map Your Deals” button on its front page once a shopper is in a Walmart store, according to the release.

Walmart also made it easier for customers to access the Black Friday maps at home before going to an outlet. According to the release, a shopper can get the maps by typing “Black Friday map” in the app’s search bar; or by heading to “Store Finder,” setting “Your Store,” and scrolling down to “Map Your Deals” under the Weekly Ad.

“In the map, we don’t just show items,” Kilsch added. “We also show other major points of interest within the store, including Customer Service, Pickup, Pharmacy, and even the restrooms.”

Walmart stores each have a different layout that comprises about 100,000 products. So rolling out and maintaining the app, according to the company, is a big challenge to the teams behind it.
