CES 2020: Powercast to debut wireless charging grip for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con

Nintendo Switch players will soon enjoy uninterrupted playtime.

The Consumer Electronics Show is coming up in a few days from now and tech and auto companies continue to provide sneak peeks into their latest products and inventions that are about to wow attendees at the annual trade show.

Powercast Corporation, which develops radio frequency-based over-the-air wireless power technologies, has just announced that it will be showcasing its latest innovations for gaming at the CES 2020 next week.

Among Powercast’s latest products is the Wireless Charging Grip for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controllers. The company plans to make this gaming accessory available for purchase exclusively on Amazon.com starting in the spring of 2020.

“Though we had hoped to ship our grip in Q3 2019, we’re excited to be back on track after some manufacturing delays to offer first production units this Spring,” Powercast’s chief operating and technical officer Charles Greene was quoted as saying.

With Powercast’s Wireless Charging Grip for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controllers, players will no longer need to dock their Joy-Con controllers to charge them as Powercast’s latest product is able to automatically recharge the controllers over the air when it is placed within two feet of Powercast’s FCC- and ISED-approved PowerSpot wireless power transmitter.

The wireless charging grip uses Bluetooth Low Energy so that the grip only requests power from the transmitter when its batteries are low. This Bluetooth technology also allows the grip to stop charging when it is already fully charged.
