Continental to showcase ‘transparent’ car hood at CES 2020

Drivers will soon get a transparent view of the outside of their vehicles as they drive.

Automotive components supplier Continental is coming up with new ways to take driving experience to the next level with the upcoming release of its latest in-car innovations.

Continental will showcase its new transparent hood function at the annual Consumer Electronics Show from January 7 to 10 in Las Vegas.

This technology, which builds on Continental’s Surround View system, will allow drivers to see the road they are driving and obstacles along the road more vividly. It features four satellite cameras and an electronic control unit.

Continental has developed a smart image processing algorithm that reconstructs the image under the vehicle and inserts that image into the driver’s view.

In addition to the transparent hood, Continental said it is also developing an ultra-wideband technology with its partners to make keyless vehicles a standard in the industry. This way, drivers can use their smartphones to park their vehicles remotely and secure passive entry, among other uses.

Continental is also showcasing its updated 3D Lightfield technology for its Natural 3D Centerstack display to allow passengers to enjoy a 3D experience inside the car.

The company has also hinted at displaying its Ac2ated Sound technology for its loudspeaker-free audio system, allowing passengers to enjoy a three-dimensional sound inside the car.

These are just some of the new in-car technologies that Continental plans to roll out soon.

CES attendees can witness how they work during the annual trade show from January 7 to 10.

The company will host a press conference on Monday, January 6 at 10 a.m. at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, Level 2, Surf Ballrooms D-F.
