CES 2020: Wella launches Smart Mirror and Color DJ for salon of the future

Hair stylists will soon be able to serve their clients better with the help of AI.

Prior to the culmination of the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show, hair products maker Wella, a brand owned by Covergirl’s parent company Coty, has unveiled its smart products for the salon of the future.

Wella showcased its Smart Mirror that it developed with smart health and beauty hub platform CareOS at the CES 2020. This intelligent mirror is able to provide customers with live augmented reality try on, allowing them to first see in the mirror how their desired hair color would look on them even without actually applying it. It is a solution built for salons, allowing hair stylists to provide better recommendations.

The mirror features facial recognition that allows customers to preview their previous looks, as well as a 360° video capture to view the hair at every angle. Smart Mirror can also be accessed via a mobile app to let clients connect with their hair stylists in between visits.

Apart from the Smart Mirror, Wella also introduced its first ever in-salon device for stylists called the Color DJ. This device lets stylists produce ultra-personalized color masks digitally, with over 60 billion color mixes possible, including fragrance levels.

“These innovations speak to our commitment to advance the experience of hairdressers and salon clients. These are not one-off gimmicks they are mainstream changes which will future-proof and help drive growth of the salon professional industry,” Coty President Sylvie Moreau said in a statement.

The CES 2020 in Las Vegas has just capped off, but you can check the best products and innovations that were unveiled during the biggest tech show at I4U News’ dedicated CES 2020 News Hub.
