So, providing nice looking dark mode themes for their Gmail users was a long-awaited feature demanded by their loyal Google users.

While the dark mode is less stressful on the eyes for the users, it also helps a user’s battery lasts for a longer duration, especially if you are using Gmail a lot during your work hours.

Although a little late in releasing the dark mode, the team at Google has taken full care to make the dark mode as impressive as possible, the contrast settings and color themes make it quite easier to manage your Gmail account while proving to be less stressful to users’ eyes.

It’s very common for professional and common users to use both mobile and desktop devices for different tasks. Here we will show how to activate Gmail’s dark mode on different devices.

How can one activate the Dark Mode for Gmail – Desktop Version

For the desktop version, Open Gmail and click on the gear-shaped “Settings” button located on the top right-hand side, located just below your profile picture. Here you will find an option to select different themes, including the dark one.

Once you have activated it, you are done with installing the dark theme for your Gmail account.

How to activate dark mode in Gmail on your Mobile Device – Android Version

Before installing dark mode for Gmail on an Android device, first, you have to make sure you are using the latest version of Gmail on your Android Device. You can verify that by visiting Gmail’s official page on Google Play Store if your Gmail app is out of date, it will show an update button otherwise you will not find any such option to update it.

Once you are sure you are using the latest version of Gmail, you are all set to install the dark theme for Gmail on your Android Device.

If you have already enabled Android’s dark mode feature, Gmail’s dark mode gets activated automatically. To activate in manually, you will need to tap on the main menu button that is located on the top left-hand side, then browse to Settings-General Settings.

Here you will be provided with the different options to choose from, the different themes available will include dark, light and the default theme.

Note: If you are using Android Pie or any of the earlier versions, the dark mode feature will not be available. However, by opening Gmail in web browsers like Chrome and Firefox you can still activate dark mode in the earlier versions too.

How to activate dark mode in Gmail-iOS Version

Once you have opened the Gmail map in your iOS device, click on the hamburger menu located on the top corner of the application. Scroll through the options and click on “Settings”, click on “Theme” and then tap on the “Dark” option.

Note: For all those who are using devices with iOS 13, the dark theme can be activated for apps selecting this option from iOS settings itself, once it is done all compatible apps will switch to dark mode on its own.

To do so, click on Settings-Display and Brightness-Dark Mode.

For devices running on versions older than iOS13, open Gmail-Settings-Theme-Dark.

That’s it, you all set to start using dark mode for your Gmail account.
