Coca-Cola buys 60-second spot for Super Bowl 2020 commercial

The soda maker will be part of this year's lineup of big ad spenders.

Soft-drinks giant Coca-Cola will be returning to the Big Game this 2020 with a 60-second commercial after taking a break in 2019.

Coca-Cola’s TV commercial will air on the actual day of the Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, February 2 on FOX, Variety reports.

In 2019, Coca-Cola decided to stay on the sidelines during the Super Bowl and has instead aired a commercial just before the game started.

The TV ad was an animation entitled “A Coke is a Coke.”

Although Coca-Cola still regarded it as the company’s 2019 Super Bowl commercial, the advertising industry does not recognize it as one of the TV ads during the Super Bowl because it did not air during the actual game.

It could be because of the exorbitant pricing of spot for a TV commercial during the Big Game. Variety said FOX has priced a 30-second spot to between $5 million and $5.6 million, while slots for pre- and post-game coverage is only around $2 million to $3 million.

Coca-Cola has yet to make an announcement about its TV commercial for the Super Bowl LIV. However, Variety said the company could again focus on celebrating diversity, which has been the focal point of Coke’s Super Bowl TV ads in recent years.

The 2020 Super Bowl, or Super Bowl LIV, will be taking place on Sunday, February 2 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
