Verizon brings in-car Wi-Fi to new Audi cars

New Audi cars will let occupants connect to Verizon’s 4G LTE network anywhere in the U.S.

Verizon is expanding beyond wireless mobile phone plans into other uses for its network. The telecommunications company has just entered into a new partnership with luxury carmaker Audi to offer in-vehicle Wi-Fi for the 2020 line of Audi cars.

The 2020 Audi A4 and A5 model lines in the United States will feature the Audi connect suite that will include unlimited data connection powered by Verizon’s 4G LTE network. This way, owners of the new Audi A4 and A5 cars will be able to connect their phones and other devices to Wi-Fi inside their car.

It’s ideal for use when navigating around cities using digital maps or connecting to other online services.

Audi customers with qualifying vehicles will be eligible for a six-month trial of all Audi connect services including vehicle care packages.

In addition to the in-car Wi-Fi, select Audi 2020 models will also be integrated with Verizon's eSIM enabled network.

“Partnering with Verizon gives us the opportunity to deliver Audi connect services with unlimited Wi-Fi and reliable connectivity to Audi customers every time they get behind the wheel,” Audi of America director Pom Malhotra said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Verizon Vice President Andy Brady said: “Our partnership with Audi is providing customers with a fast and reliable Wi-Fi experience and the opportunity to connect to devices and stream content outside the four walls of their home.”

Verizon will be making an appearance during the 2020 Super Bowl to showcase its 5G network through TV commercials.
