Mr. Peanut gets killed in Planters’ Super Bowl 2020 pregame show TV ad

It’s one epic Super Bowl TV commercial to top them all.

Planters has just released its first ad for this year’s Super Bowl and it ends in the most unlikely way. Spoiler alert: Mr. Peanut dies.

Mr. Peanut has been Planters’ most iconic mascot. In the official Planters Super Bowl TV ad for the pregame show, Mr. Peanut is seen saving his friends Matt Walsh and Wesley Snipes from falling off a cliff after a road accident.

It’s a big leap for Mr. Peanut after saving his friends from snacking disappointment in last year’s Planters commercial.

Samantha Hess, Planters brand manager at Kraft Heinz, said: “It’s with heavy hearts that we confirm Mr. Peanut has passed away at 104 years old… He will be remembered as the legume who always brought people together for nutty adventures and a good time. We encourage fans to tune in to MR. Peanut’s funeral during the third quarter of the Super Bowl to celebrate his life.”

His co-star, Matt Walsh described Mr. Peanut as “more than just a friend.”

“He was a hero. I’ll do my best to honor his legacy and be there for my friends like he was always there for me even until our last wild ride together. I’ll pay my last respects during his funeral on Super Bowl Sunday. I encourage our entire nation to do the same,” Walsh added.

The TV ad, entitled “Road Trip,” will air during the Super Bowl’s pregame show on Sunday, February 2.

Planters’ main ad for the Super Bowl LIV will air in the third quarter of the game. It will broadcast Mr. Peanut’s funeral.

To celebrate his death, Planters is offering commemorative packaging for fans from January 24 to 27. The packaging will feature Mr. Peanut’s classy style.
