Nintendo says Switch production delayed due to coronavirus outbreak

However, the company maintained the release date of the upcoming Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing Special Edition.

Japanese video gaming giant Nintendo has confirmed that the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in China has affected production of its Nintendo Switch consoles, including the newly introduced special edition, the Switch Animal Crossing Edition.

The death toll from the virus, which originated in Wuhan, China, now stands at over 500, with more than 28,000 cases reported to date.

Because of the potential impact of the virus to the processes involved in manufacturing the Nintendo Switch consoles, including the impact to people involved in assembling the device, the company has acknowledged the inevitable delay of production and shipments of Nintendo’s hardware devices.

Nintendo has particularly noted impacts on the production of the Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con controllers, as well as the production of the Ring Fit Adventure game that comes with its own ring controller.

Nintendo operates a production site in China for the manufacture of the Switch and Joy-Con controllers for the Japanese market. At the moment, the company said shipments of the currently out-of-stock Ring Fit Adventure are expected to be delayed.

In a separate announcement in its Japanese website, Nintendo said it has postponed pre-orders of the upcoming carrying case for the Nintendo Switch Collectible Animal Crossing Set.

However, the company said the release date for the Animal Crossing: New Horizons digital game and the upcoming Nintendo Switch Animal Crossings Special Edition have not been changed.

The new special edition console is scheduled for release March 31, while the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game will start to become available March 20.
