Survivor was cool for the first couple of seasons and then it got really boring to me. Looking back I think it was one of the reasons we see such few good scripted programs today thanks to helping usher in the reality TV craze.

Sony and CBS announced today that Survivor would be going HD thanks to Sony’s XDCAM HD Professional disc system that will be used to shoot the 17th season of Survivor. "Sony's XDCAM HD system will start a new era for 'SURVIVOR'," said Mark Burnett, the show's executive producer. "The camcorder brings the exotic locales to life brilliantly, creating an immediacy that draws viewers right into the frame. This is something we'd been looking to do for some time and now, with Sony's assistance, it has become a reality."

Sony says that its XDCAM is becoming a favorite for reality TV producers thanks to its flexibility, random access and editing convenience. Too bad the camera can’t make the shows more fun to watch.
