EA announced today that when Mass Effect for PC launches on May 28th in North America and June 6th in Europe free downloadable content for the game will be available. The downloadable content is called “Bringing Down the Sky” and is the first in a planned series of downloads to expand the Mass Effect story and universe.

The download includes a new uncharted world and introduces the Batarian alien race. The download adds about 90 minutes of new gameplay and a new original sound track. The coolest part is that the download will be free to registered members of the BioWare community.

The download is set on the premise that the Batarian extremists hijacked an asteroid station and set it on a collision course with a colony world of Terra Nova. That leaves Commander Shepard to stop the Batarian’s and save the lives of the colonists.
