For some digital camera users the ability for the camera to stand up to grueling use in rugged environments is more important than zoom and megapixels. Ricoh has introduced a new rugged camera for this type of user called the Ricoh G600.

The camera is shockproof and waterproof yet still sports 10 megapixels and a 5x zoom lens. Ricoh says the camera can survive falls from 1.5 meters and is water proof to a depth of 1 meter as well as offering full dust and weather resistance.

The camera can operate in temps from -10 to +40 degrees centigrade. The camera measures 116.5 x 68 x 32 mm, weighs 260g, and has controls designed to be operated while wearing gloves. The recommended price for the camera is £349.99.
