Apple had one of its best quarters ever in Q1 2008 at the same time Sony Ericsson showed one of its worst quarters ever with a reported 48% drop in profits. Profits dropped to €133m and sales dropped 8% compared to the same quarter in 2007.

This demonstrates that Sony Ericsson is losing market share massively since the overall handset market is booming right now. What the company needs is a real winner of a handset and it really lacks one right now. At the same time profits dropped so massively Sony Ericsson launched a pair of new handsets.

Both feature HSDPA connectivity and 2MP cameras, Bluetooth and M2 expansion slots. The Z780 sports a clamshell design and the G502 is a candy bar style. Pricing and availability are unknown at this time. Just looking at the phones I don’t see them turning the plummeting sales figures around.
