According to Pocket-lint industry insiders have informed them that O2 has been told to get ready for a major announcement from Apple on June 9th. That is the day Steve Jobs is giving his keynote at WWDC and is unanimously expected to pull the 3G iPhone out of his pocket.

Most expect the iPhone to be available in the US very shortly after the device is announced at WWDC. When the first iPhone was launched in June of last year it was November before the iPhone showed up in the UK.

This time around Apple has some competition coming in July with the HTC Diamond and BlackBerry Bold. The question is then whether Apple will release the 3G iPhone in the UK in July to compete with these handsets or if it will wait until November like it did the first time around. I bet this time Apple will try to get the device in as many hands as possible right out of the gate.
