We already have a rumor that Microsoft is working on a motion controller for the Xbox 360. Now there is a new rumor that Sony is working also on a new motion controller that can "break apart" into two separate units.

Each of the controller units would contain an accelerometer like the Wii controllers.
As you remember Sony brought motion sensing into the current PS3 controller very late. The success of the Wii is basically only based on its controllers. Both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 have nothing that comes close today.
More details about the new rumored "break apart" motion PS3 pad can be found at GamesIndustry.biz.
