At the 2008 Tokyo International Fire and Safety Exhibition, the International Rescue System Institute displayed the Kenaf Rescue Robot, a highly mobile robot for use in disaster or emergency rescue situations.

International Rescue System Institute (IRS) is the Japanese industry-government-academia-civilian research organization to advance and diffuse high-technologies coping with disaster. IRS aims to contribute to build a safe society in which people can live without anxiety by cooperation of various organizations and human resources.
