We have talked about the iPhone 3G for a while now and this week marks the availability of the phone in retail stores. We know that a PAYG version of the iPhone 3G is coming to O2, but what we didn’t know was when exactly the phone would show up.

According to Stuff the PAYG iPhone 3G won’t hit stores until around Christmas. How exactly the Christmas date was figured out is unknown to me. According to Stuff the O2 website says later this year. I guess Christmas time shopping season is a good time to launch it.

For the iPhone fans that can’t wait you can stand in line this Friday to get your own iPhone 3G. I am still wondering if there will be enough of the new handsets available or if we will see shortages like we saw with the original iPhone early in its launch.
