Hughes has announced an even faster Internet access plan for users living in areas that are not served by traditional broadband Internet providers. The plan is called the ElitePremium plan and operates over the HughesNet service. The plan offers download speeds up to 5 Mbps and customers can order the plan starting on August 21, 2008.

The ElitePremium package joins other new packages including the Home (1Mbps), Pro (1.2 Mbps), and ProPlus (1.6 Mbps). Hughes says that the new higher speed plan was made possible by the new Spaceway 3 satellite. Hughes says the satellite is the largest in the US and the world's first satellite with on-board switching and routing. Hughes makes no mention of upload speeds for any of its plans.

"ElitePremium rounds out the most exciting range of satellite Internet access plans ever offered," said Mike Cook, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Hughes. "Over the last few weeks we have enhanced the speeds across our full range of service plans. We are the only provider that offers consumers in underserved parts of the country such a comprehensive range of true broadband service options."
