The loss of sensitive data is never a good thing whether it’s the loss of your own personal data or the loss of data from a business. When the lost data contains information on thousands of people things get even worse.

Home Office has suspended the contract for PA Consulting after one of its employees lost a flash drive that contained sensitive data on 84,000 criminals. The consulting firm was contracted to track offenders through the justice system.

The data was downloaded to the flash drive for processing and was then loss. The data is that of all prisoners in England and Wales and was not encrypted. Among the data was the name, date of birth, release date and home detention curfew dates.
