Sony has announced a new projector for home theater fans in the UK. The new projector uses the Sony SXRD technology for fine-grain 1080p HD resolutions and 100Hz frame rates. The projector is called the BRAVIA VPL-VW80.

The technology behind the 100Hz frame rate is called Motionflow Dark Frame Insertion. It takes frames from the original source and inserts them to double the frame shown on screen. The contrast ratio is 60000:1 and the lens has powered zoom functionality.

“With the VPL-VW80 we are offering customers genuinely high-end features in a top mid-segment model,” says Josh Honda, Senior Marketing Manager at Sony. “This means real baseline quality plus fine control where it matters, like Motionflow Dark Frame Insertion and detailed panel alignment. This will appeal to the knowledgeable buyer keen to upgrade to HD or improve an existing HD setup – and who wants to do it properly.”
