Hughes Network Systems is one of the biggest providers of satellite broadband networks in the world. The company has announced a new leasing option that lowers the cost of satellite broadband by reducing upfront costs by 75%.

Subscribers who chose the leasing option will pay only $99 upfront at the time of activation. They will receive free installation and pay a monthly equipment rental fee of $9.99. The purchase price of the equipment is $299.98 after a $100 mail-in rebate.

"HughesNet's new leasing program dramatically reduces the start-up costs a new subscriber incurs, making it easy to take advantage of new, higher speed plans with a much lower upfront cost," said Peter Gulla, vice president of marketing for North America at Hughes. "HughesNet sets the standard for high-speed Internet by satellite with entry-level plans starting at up to 1Mbps, ranging up to 5Mbps. Now everyone beyond the reach of cable or DSL can get high speed satellite Internet access at an affordable price."
