BBC Adds New Mobile Downloads To IPlayer

BBC has added new mobile downloads to its iPlayer service. TV shows can now be downloaded to mobile devices that can play content protected by Windows Media DRM. Among newly supported devices are Sony Walkman E and S series handsets.

The Archos Internet Media Tablet is also supported. In addition to the DRM protected TV shows DRM-free podcasts and radio programs are offered as well.

In the iPlayer download interface is now a link labeled "for media players." Video is downloaded at 320x180 at 500kbps with 128kbps audio. iPhone fans will be glad to hear the BBC is working on an iPhone player, but Apple is holding things up by not making its DRM available.
