Traditionally platform exclusive titles have been used as a way to get gamers to buy one console over the other. One of the Playstation's biggest and most popular platform exclusives has traditionally been the Metal Gear Solid 4 series.

Konami is said to be considering bringing the game to the Xbox 360. They wouldn’t be alone on making the change from an exclusive to availability on both the PS3 and Xbox. Former Playstation exclusives like Final Fantasy and Tekken 6 are doing it as well. Games cost so much to develop today and can drive so much money developers are beginning to need to put titles out for as many platforms as possible.

"Capcom have already sounded the death knell for third-party exclusives, since the rising costs of next-gen development, and the relatively small user bases of both consoles, mean they make no financial sense," says Editor of PSM3 magazine, Daniel Dawkins.
