Typical e-Paper displays are black and white and they are used on a slew of devices today. The first device using a color e-paper display has now launched from Freestyle Audio. The device is a waterproof MP3 player.

The high contrast display is designed for use in bright conditions outdoors. The display itself is made by Qualcomm and needs no backlighting.

The color display is made from two layers, one layer reflects light away, and some light gets through to the second layer. Interference between the light bouncing off and making it through creates the color.
